Custom Surfboards

At Gliding Dutchman it is possible to order a custom surfboard. Gliding Dutchman focuses mainly on surfboards with a retro touch: in terms of shapes and design. For custom surfboards we mainly supply fishes, eggs and lonboards in classic subtle colours. Our custom surfboards are handmade in the Netherlands. The board models are mostly tested in our North Sea.

Over a cup of coffee we discuss the ideas of the ideal custom surfboard that the customer has in mind. The customer has the opportunity to give the shape the green light before we continue with the process. We encourage the customer to come and admire the future board during the building process.

Below is a price indication per foot of board. Certain requirements can influence the price (colour, shapes, polishing, fin set up).

Shapes

Mini Simmons

Despite the classic Mini Simmons being very short, this type of board is very wide and thick. The extra wide and thick aspects of the Mini Simmons provide a lot of volume for a fairly short board. This gives the board a skatey feel.

The Simmons is easier to paddle than shortboards. However, compared to longboards, the surfer has to put more effort into paddling. Because the board is under 6 feet, it is easy to carry.

The mini Simmons from Gliding Dutchman has a single bottom concave.

Fins: usual twin keel set up. Quad set possible

Fish

The Fish is a fairly short, thick and wide board. Characteristic is the fish tail that provides volume reduction in the back of the board. Fish surfboards are good for average mushy/messy days: typical North Sea conditions. A lot of volume at the chest ensures that the board paddles faster than, for example, a shortboard of the same length.

For a custom fish surfboard you can go to Gliding Dutchman. Apart from the typical fish tail there are many other aspects you can choose for your custom fish.

We deliver fishes as twin fin or quad fin. The twin fin set provides speed and snappy turns. The quad fin setup provides more hold and bigger swinging turns. In addition, you can choose between fin plugs or glass-on wooden fins for your custom surfboard.

Egg/midlength

North Sea Egg's at Gliding Dutchman are seen as an entry-level model in the world of hardtop surfboards for beginners. Also for the advanced surfer this is a good surfboard to catch a lot of waves on the calmer days.

Because there is relatively more volume in the front of the board, one can paddle faster. Being able to paddle faster means catching more waves!

Compared to a longboard, you lose more paddle speed. On the other hand, the North Sea Egg surfs more smoothly than a longboard.

Gliding Dutchman's North Sea Egg's are around 7'6".

Fin setup: Single fin or 2 + 1 set up (smaller single fin with 2 sidebites)

Longboard

A surfboard above 9 feet is called a longboard. In addition to the length, there are a number of aspects that have a great influence on the shape of the custom longboard. Although the shape of the custom longboard remains above 9 feet in length, a longboard can surf as an all-rounder, or as a technical nose rider.

Beginner surfers benefit most from an all-round longboard shape to master longboarding.

For the surfer who prefers to stand on the nose as long as possible, we shape certain aspects in such a way that noseriding is optimal. On the other hand, a Custom noserider longboard is more difficult to surf for beginning surfers.

Design and Color

With all our custom surfboards we provide a desired color by adding pigment to the resin, the classic way! When discussing the design of the surfboard, the customer chooses the color based on RAL number.

In addition to choosing the base color, there is the option to give parts of the custom surfboard a different color, we call these resin panels and rail bands.

Custom logo

At Gliding Dutchman we can apply the logo of your company or club to the custom surfboard.

Inlays

For your custom surfboard it is possible to add a cotton fabric to the laminate, these are also called deck inlays. By adding a fabric the surfboard gets a nice pattern.

Fin Setup

We have a large variety of fin set ups at our disposal. Per custom surfboard there are different set ups possible. For example, in our shapes we use:

• Futures fin plugs
• US box for single fins
• Glass on keel fins/quad fin setups

Combinations of the above fin set ups are of course possible. Think of boards with 5 future plugs to custom made glass on fins.
